Thomas Wake is the seasonal keeper of a remote lighthouse on an island battered by
relentless winds and storms in late nineteenth-century Nova Scotia. Ephraim Winslow, his
young assistant, volunteers for a four-week shift. However, the ferocity of the weather
forces the men into an extended stay and a strained coexistence, gradually bringing their
personal demons, ancestral fears, and tormented impulses to the surface in a harrowing
crescendo of madness and claustrophobia.
